Traditional Chinese Medicine for
ivf support
In Vitro Fertilization or IVF is a procedure whereby an egg is fertilized by sperm outside of the body. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture can enhance the success rates for an IVF procedure. Ideally, preparation should commence 3 months prior to the IVF as this allows for a longer period of observation and it takes about 3 months for an egg to fully mature. However, preparation has been done in as little as 1 month with good results.
As added support during IVF we offer personalized treatment depending on your medical history and your response to treatments. It is recommended that you receive 4-12 sessions of treatments during the IVF cycle.
Stress, both physical and emotional is unfavourable to a successful IVF cycle. Acupuncture is a proven safe, natural and effective practice in TCM, which has been successfully used, by millions of people for centuries. Acupuncture has also been shown to reduce uterine contractions, and improve blood flow to the uterus. These two factors vastly improve the chances of success of a pregnancy by creating the ideal environment for the embryo implantation and development.
Acupuncture before and after the embryo transfer can increase the success rate by over 160% according to “the German study”. When acupuncture is continued after the embryo transfer it improves the likelihood of a full term pregnancy.

Traditional Chinese Medicine for
iui support
Intrauterine insemination or IUI is a medical technique that involves collecting sperm, washing them and placing them directly into the uterus, thereby improving the prospect of sperm getting to the fallopian tube.
Your doctor might choose to perform the IUI during a natural menstruation cycle, which involves the release of one mature egg per time, or alongside fertility treatments that stimulate the development of ova producing follicles thereby increasing the number of mature eggs released. Around day 12 of the menstrual cycle, a dose of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is also administered to simulate ovulation.
An IUI will typically be recommended by reproductive health experts in the following cases:
- When there is male factor infertility such as low count, motility, or morphology
- When fertility problems are mild
- If the fertility is unexplained
- Cervical factor infertility
- When sexual dysfunction is a factor
- Sperm donation
IUI may be recommended by Reproductive Endoriconologists for women fitting a certain profile:
- male partner having male factor infertility including motility, morphology, or count
- below the age of 39
- women with an abnormal ovarian reserve for their age
- women having hostile or thick cervical mucus
- women having blocked fallopian tubes
- male partners experiencing sexual or erectile dysfunction
- women who are open to the possibility of twins
IUI success rate have been observed to be between 10-20% per cycle. The success rate can go up to 30% in women with strong affinity profiles. Before deciding on an IUI it is highly advisable that you consult with a reproductive health expert to review your reproductive health situation. Examine the benefits and risks associated with IUI before making your choice.
Traditional Chinese medicine is an excellent support for IUI and greatly increases successful implantation by:
- Regulates the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian-axis, which enhances egg and follicle health. This does not always happen in fertility medication with western medicine. Chinese medicine improves follicle count and quality. This leads to higher conception and successful pregnancy rates
- Acupuncture techniques Increase the blood flow to the uterus and ovaries which can improve implantation rates.
- Traditional Chinese medicine counters the side effects of fertility medications.
- Acupuncture has been proven to regulate the sympathetic nervous system. It also decreases stress levels and this improves chances of a successful pregnancy.
